It’s Wednesday, and you know what that means: another stop on our blog hop!
This week I’m doing a guest post with author Jacey Holbrand, where I’ll be talking about what fuels me to keep writing– or rather, about my awkward inability to stop.
For those who don’t know, the Urban Dragon was originally written with the intention of being exclusive to the Kindle Unlimited program (thus the short, serialized format).
According to the tin, KU is supposed to work like Netflix for books: you pay for a subscription and then you’re free to read as many books as you want. Authors aren’t paid by book, but by the number of pages read. The big catch? The book has to be Amazon exclusive.
Once the job of actually publishing fell on me, I thought I’d make it more inclusive by extending my spheres to other digital storefronts, like B&N, Kobo, iTunes, etc. But that hasn’t panned out. To date, around 95% of my sales have been through Amazon, so it no longer makes sense to keep publishing the individual stories through all those channels.
If you’re depending on those channels for your Urban Dragon fix, have no fear: I’ll still be publishing the compilation volumes through iTunes, Kobo, Scribd, et al. You’ll also be able to request the print volumes at your favorite brick-and-mortar bookstore starting October 15th.
This week we have not one but two blog hop stops!
I’m being interviewed by Mary DeSantis at Kit & Kabookle, where we’ll be talking about bizarre monsters and the genres I could never write.
Also come by Where the Story Comes First, where I’ll be talking about the book series that’s made the biggest impact on me: my first and best love, the Animorphs series by K.A. Applegate.
It’s been two weeks, so it’s time to return to Rosario and Arkay in their next adventure: Dance with the Devil.
For the uninitiated, Urban Dragon is a serial that’s being released every two weeks until Christmas. When we last saw our heroes, they went head to head with a demon that had been terrorizing a deaf priest in an abandoned factory near Indianapolis. They were assisted by Adam Smith, a young monster hunter who belongs to the Order of Saint Michael of the Sun.
Adam’s help doesn’t just come in the form of Latin chanting and large-caliber bullets. After their ordeal, he helped Rosario get medical treatment, and the Order has more information about the supernatural than Rosario could ever have hoped for– and some much-needed moral support as well.
But Rosario isn’t the only one making new friends. Arkay’s found a new job at a local strip club, and she loves the attention… until one of her coworkers catches the eye of an up-and-coming drug lord.
Dance with the Devil is available now on Amazon and all your favorite online booksellers.
Exciting news, everybody!
This week Urban Dragon is being featured on the SFF podcast 600 Second Saga. Host Mariah Avix will be performing Like Bad Spraypaint, a prequel short story about the day Arkay and Rosario first met.
You can download it from iTunes, Stitcher, Libsyn, or on the 600 Second Saga website.

It’s Wednesday, and you know what that means: it’s time for the next stop of our blog hop.
This week I’m being interviewed by Christine Young, and we’ll be talking about critique groups, my ideal actors for the main characters, and the darkest point in the series so far.
Hey guys! It’s Wednesday, and that means it’s time for another stop on the blog hop.
This week I’m being interviewed by Nancy at The Avid Reader, so come check it out to talk spicy food, childhood crushes, and reasons why angry social justice people probably shouldn’t have access to time machines.
The time has come for the second book in the Urban Dragon series: Shadow and Steel
A refresher for the newbies: Urban Dragon is being released as a serial, with a new book coming out every two weeks. Last time we debuted with Mark of
the Dragon, where Rosario and Arkay ran for their lives to escape a deranged necromancer and his army of the undead, and barely escaped Indianapolis with their lives.
But the ones they left behind weren’t so lucky. There’s a new supernatural creature stalking the streets, and police won’t listen to reports of malevolent shadows preying on the homeless.
Luckily, the mayor of the Valley homeless camp knows someone who can help. And this time, she has his blessing to go kick some ass.
Shadow and Steel is available now on Amazon and all your favorite online booksellers.
It’s time for the next stop on our blog hop. This week I’m being interviewed by Teresa Noel at T’s Stuff, so head over and check it out to learn about the man who inspired Mike Jones.

There’s a lot in the Urban Dragon series to offend people with delicate sensibilities: violence, language, gore, sexual assault, sex work, diversity, dick jokes, etc. So when my dad complained about my writing, I wasn’t surprised that he took offense so much as the thing he took offense about:
I’d referred to Boxy as my partner, rather than my husband.
My dad wanted to know why. The short answer is because ‘partner’ has always sounded right, and ‘husband’ has always sounded wrong. But the question’s been mulling around in my head long enough that I’ve got a more articulate answer. (more…)
